Little remains of this sprawling ammunition manufacturing facility aside from the power plant. The munitions factory was used to produce explosives during WWII and later secretly supplied deuterium-enriched heavy water for the Manhattan Project. After the end of the war the complex was disused until the 1970s and eventually mostly demolished. Unfortunately few WWII period photos exist online and the structures were not photographed by HAERs. Due to contaminated soil and water, the property is now on the EPA Superfund NPL list. It is remarkable that while the factory was used to support the war effort for less than 5 years, over 70 years later the effort to cleanup the environmental damage caused during this time still continues.
